Our Commitment to Inclusive Practice
At Cosmos Nursery & Kindergarten, we believe every child deserves to feel valued, included, respected and supported to achieve their full potential. Inclusion is at the heart of our ethos and underpins everything we do. We are committed to creating an environment where all children and families feel a strong sense of belonging, regardless of their background, culture, language, abilities, needs or circumstances. This commitment is reflected throughout our policies, curriculum, and daily practice. Our inclusion and equality policy promotes respect for diversity, challenges discrimination, and ensures that every child can access high-quality early education and care.
Following our recent Ofsted inspection, we have reflected carefully on both our strengths and the areas where we can continue to improve.
Ofsted recognised our positive relationships, strong safeguarding culture, effective behavior support, and inclusion of children with SEND. We are proud of these strengths and remain committed to building on them.
Our Improvement Priorities
As part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, we have developed an action plan focused on strengthening inclusive practice even further:
- Conduct a comprehensive review and audit of our SEND provision to identify opportunities for further development and ensure consistency across the setting.
- Strengthen staff knowledge and confidence in adapting interactions and learning experiences to meet the needs of all children, including those who may be withdrawn, disadvantaged, or require additional support.
- Continue to improve early identification, assessment, and support pathways for children with SEND, working closely with families and external professionals.
- Enhance opportunities for reflective practice, supervision, and professional development so that staff can continually evaluate and improve their inclusive practice.
- Further develop our curriculum to ensure all children can access rich, meaningful learning experiences through high-quality interactions, responsive teaching, and appropriate adaptations.
Investing in Professional Development
To strengthen our SEND leadership and expertise, Elysia Mountford, our setting SENCo, is currently undertaking the Level 3 Early Years SENCo qualification through Best Practice Network. This nationally recognised programme focuses on SEND legislation, inclusion, early identification, assessment, partnership working and best practice in supporting children with additional needs.
Alongside this, our wider team participates in regular supervision, training, and continuing professional development to ensure our practice remains current, reflective, and responsive to the needs of our children and families.

Inclusion is not a destination but an ongoing journey. We will continue to listen to children, families, staff, and professionals, evaluate the impact of our provision, and make improvements where needed. Through collaboration, professional learning, and reflective practice, we aim to provide an environment where every child can thrive, develop confidence, and experience a genuine sense of belonging.
